validating sonar imagery.~}0 The ROV survey was conducted
to help address management questions o~}0f the OCNMS related to benthic communi
ties, groundtruth previous acoustic surve~}0ys, characterize the diversity, abun
dances, and health of living marine resourc~}0es associated with hard bottom and
soft bottom substrates, evaluate the fishing~}0/harvest pressures on these crit

to sanctuary-wide interests on the west coast to~}0address such topics as condi

Unknown. Positioning of the ROV was not precise due to less than~}
0 optimal operation of the Trackpoint II positioning system. The position updat
~}0e frequency was something on the order of 6 times per minute. Evidently the
na~}0vigation filter in Winfrog was set as such to not update until a "good" po
sitio~}0n was obtained. This resulted in duplicate positions being recorded in
the nav~}1 file until an "updated good" position was sensed.~}1
