irreparable damage to countless marine mammals, fish, plants, and birds.

September 29th - Management Plan Review Scoping begins this week...
The Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (OCNMS) was designated in 1994 and continues to
operate under its original management plan. As required by the National Marine Sanctuary Act,
OCNMS will begin the review of their current plan in 2008. A sanctuary management plan is a
site-specific planning and management document that describes the objectives, policies, and
activities for a sanctuary. Management plans generally outline regulatory goals, describe
boundaries, identify staffing and budget needs, set priorities and performance measures for
resource protection, research, and education programs. They also guide the development of
future management activities. OCNMS management plan review will begin with public scoping the
week of September 29th. At scoping the public will be asked to comment on the management of
the sanctuary's natural and cultural resources and overall administration.
