January 1st-31st - Hours for the Olympic Coast Discovery Center: Weekends from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
January 9th - "The Ozette Dig: Unearthing the Past, Shaping a Future" Paul Gleeson, Chief, Cultural Resources Management, 7 p.m., Olympic National Park Visitor Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road, Port Angeles, WA
January 19th-29th - COASST, Green Crab, and Debris Monitoring
January 19th - Sanctuary Advisory Council Meeting
January 31st - "Reports from the Field" OCNMS Education Specialist Greg McCormack talks about his recent trip to Gorgona Island, Colombia as one of four NOAA trainers for 30 Marine Protected Area managers from the Galapagos of Ecuador to Cocos Island, Costa Rica. "Sustainable Tourism" was the theme for this Management Capacity Training, an effort to create a United Nations World Heritage cluster of Marine Protected Areas within the Eastern Tropical Pacific Seascape corridor. Resource Protection Specialist Liam Antrim gives a presentation about the possible future of aqua energy (using the power of ocean waves to generate electricity) and the trans-Pacific cable that cuts through the sanctuary.


FEBRUARY 2007

February 7th-11th - 34th Annual Pacific Seabird Group, Annual Meeting, Asilomar, California
February 19th - OCDC volunteer field trip to the Royal Victoria Provincial Museum to view "Oceans Below" exhibit
February 19th-29th - COASST, Green Crab, and Debris Monitoring
February 22nd - Superintendent Carol Bernthal gives a presentation on the OCNMS and marine protected area management issues to Dave Morris Peninsula College class "Parks and Protected Areas" (Building P).
February 28th thru March 7th - Olympic Coast Discovery Center (OCDC) volunteer exchange program. OCDC volunteers go to Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary (HIHWNMS). Later this year, HIHWNMS volunteer hosts are returned the favor by coming to OCNMS.

April 7th - Curtis Ebbesmeyer at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center. By studying objects cast up on our shores, oceanographer Curtis Ebbesmeyer traces the flow of ocean currents. To learn more about his fascinating work, check out his website: www.beachcombers.org
